Veterinary roles we recruit

Who does your practice
need to hire?

Choose the recruitment service for your vacancy, from a general-practice associate to a specialist or multi-hospital leader.

For Memphis veterinary employers

Memphis and its counties.
Specific hospital assignments.

A Midtown associate role, a Collierville technician-heavy opening and a Cordova overnight emergency search need different briefs. Start with the hospital address, municipality, county, clinical resources and schedule, then agree the search with BEGHR.

Associate veterinarians

Specify independent procedures, appointment capacity and doctor overlap. If recruiting a new graduate, name the mentor and protect teaching time; if the candidate is licensed in another state, ask early about the practice history and continuing education the Tennessee Board lists so the start date matches the license date.

Plan an associate search →

Specialist and emergency appointments

Define the discipline, required credentials, shift pattern and resources already available. Memphis-area specialty and emergency hospitals describe overnight and weekend care on their own sites, so explain referral communication, overnight staffing and inpatient handover, and name the technicians who support the shift.

Scope a specialist role →

Medical and regional leadership

List the hospitals and decision authority. Separate clinical workload from protected time for coaching, clinical standards and team development, and set out how technician supervision works under the Tennessee Board’s responsible supervision statement.

Define a medical director role →

Put the hospital address, municipality and county in the brief.

Use the actual work address, the municipality, the county and any additional facilities. Do not present an Atoka or Somerville vacancy as interchangeable with a Midtown Memphis hospital. A rotating role should state which days belong to which site and whether movement between sites happens between working days or during a clinical shift.

Keep one clear decision process.

Choose the clinical and operational interviewers, confirm the employer-approved package and identify who can authorize an offer. Use the same role-related criteria for every candidate and give one person responsibility for feedback. Confirm the candidate’s Tennessee license status before a start date is set. Review the hiring brief and candidate scorecard before outreach.

Choose the service that matches the vacancy.

This is permanent placement for employers. Your practice hires the selected candidate directly. An immediate relief shift needs a separate arrangement; this service does not promise a locum available today. Job seekers can start with BEGHR’s veterinary placement page; the pricing form here is for employer inquiries.

Memphis veterinary hiring context for employers

The Tennessee Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners' continuing education policy states that each veterinarian must obtain 20 hours of continuing education each calendar year and each veterinary medical technician 12 hours, and that a licensee who falls short must submit a letter and certificates and make up the deficit hours by December 31. For a veterinarian licensed in another state, the Board's application instructions list proof of active practice in three of the previous five years at an average of at least 25 hours a week and 60 hours of continuing education in the previous five years, the Board accepts credential packets from the American Association of Veterinary State Boards VAULT service, and its lapsed license policy states that applicable law prohibits practice without an active license. For technicians, the Board uses the title Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician and recognizes graduates of programs accredited by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association as comparable to American Veterinary Medical Association graduates, and its supervision position statement says supervised persons must be employees of the supervising veterinarian, who does not have to be on the same premises. The Memphis/Shelby County Veterinary Medical Association describes a mission to promote the practice of veterinary medicine in Shelby County and lists continuing education and jobs pages, the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville has a Refer a Patient page for veterinarians, and Lincoln Memorial University's veterinary college in Harrogate hosts a job board for its graduates. O*NET OnLine, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics 2025 wage data, lists the Memphis, TN-MS-AR median annual wage for veterinarians slightly above the Tennessee median and below the national median, the Memphis median for veterinary technicians below both, and the Memphis median for veterinary assistants slightly above the Tennessee median and below the national median. The same state rules apply to every Memphis employer, so confirm them before the Memphis search starts.

  • Continuing education support: state the paid days and course support behind the Board's 20 hours a year for veterinarians and 12 for technicians, and say who tracks the hours before the December 31 deadline.
  • License route: ask a candidate licensed elsewhere for the practice history and continuing education the Board's instructions list, and say whether the start date holds if the Board's review takes longer than planned.
  • Technician delegation: name the tasks assigned to Licensed Veterinary Medical Technicians and the doctor who supervises them, because the Board's position statement requires supervised persons to be employees of the supervising veterinarian.
  • Premises: a hospital opening a new site needs a Tennessee premises permit, and the application form asks for a supervising veterinarian and license number, so state the permit status before promising an opening date.
  • County and municipality: name the hospital's county and city, because the Census Bureau's 2025 estimates put the metro's Tennessee counties at 910,226 residents in Shelby County, 62,287 in Tipton County and 45,071 in Fayette County, each with its own county government.

Market context is attributed to Tennessee Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, Tennessee Board continuing education policy, Tennessee Board veterinarian application instructions (PH-2784), Tennessee Board AAVSB VAULT policy, Tennessee Board lapsed license policy, Tennessee Board responsible supervision position statement, Tennessee Board technician program equivalence policy, Tennessee Board technician nomenclature policy, Tennessee Board premises permit application (PH-3577), Memphis/Shelby County Veterinary Medical Association, UT College of Veterinary Medicine Refer a Patient, Lincoln Memorial University veterinary college job board, O*NET OnLine veterinarian wages by area, O*NET OnLine veterinary technician wages by area, O*NET OnLine veterinary assistant wages by area and Census Bureau 2025 county population estimates. These are third-party and state sources, not BEGHR claims.

Plan Tennessee credential checks before the start date.

Use the Tennessee Department of Health license verification for the relevant professional record. Tennessee licenses veterinarians and Licensed Veterinary Medical Technicians through the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners within the Department of Health. The Board’s application instructions list the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination score for the examination route, and proof of recent practice and continuing education for a veterinarian licensed in another state. Assign a person to verify license status and the expiration date, record the verification date and resolve questions with the Board. Check any specialty credentials the employer requires with the issuing organization.

For a candidate moving from another state, review the Tennessee Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners applications and rules page. Do not treat an out-of-state license or a preferred start date as confirmation that Tennessee requirements are satisfied. The Board states that it may grant licensure by examination or by endorsement from other states, and its lapsed license policy states that practice without an active license is prohibited. The application instructions on file carry an older revision date, so confirm current requirements with the Board. The Board determines eligibility and timing; BEGHR does not issue licenses.

For continuing education and credential policies, see the Board’s continuing education policy and the Board’s veterinarian application instructions and the Board’s AAVSB VAULT policy.

Veterinary recruitment coverage

Memphis and
surrounding communities.

A Memphis veterinary search works best when the hospital address comes before the city label. Memphis neighborhoods, the Shelby County suburbs and the Tipton and Fayette county towns are different workplaces under different local governments. Business Executive Group uses the employer’s role, schedule and location to scope a permanent search.

Name the street address, municipality and county. Memphis is the large central city, while Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, Lakeland, Arlington and Millington are separate Shelby County municipalities, and Atoka, Munford, Covington, Oakland, Somerville and Piperton are separate Tipton and Fayette county places. Cordova, Raleigh, Hickory Hill, Whitehaven, East Memphis and Midtown are neighborhoods inside the City of Memphis. The Memphis metropolitan statistical area also reaches into Mississippi and Arkansas, and coverage on this site is limited to Tennessee, because a hospital in another state falls under a different licensing authority.

Central Memphis

Downtown Memphis and Midtown are neighborhoods inside the City of Memphis, not separate municipalities, and the City of Memphis Parks neighborhood list names Downtown, Midtown, the Medical District and Uptown as separate neighborhoods. Memphis 3.0, the City’s comprehensive plan, describes an Innovation Corridor that links Downtown Memphis, the Memphis Medical District and the University of Memphis. Give the street address and the neighborhood in each brief, and list any East Memphis or Cordova site on its own line.

East Memphis and Cordova

East Memphis, Cordova and Raleigh are neighborhoods inside the City of Memphis, and Memphis 3.0 lists East, Cordova and Raleigh as separate planning districts. Wolfchase Animal Hospital lists a Bartlett address on Germantown Road while describing its services as near Cordova, and Drennan Animal Hospital lists a Cordova address on North Germantown Parkway, so a neighborhood label does not show the municipality. Use the street address and the municipality on the hospital’s legal address.

South and southeast Memphis

Hickory Hill and Whitehaven are Memphis neighborhoods inside the City of Memphis. The Memphis 3.0 Southeast planning district page describes the district as home to Hickory Hill, and Whitehaven has a planning district page of its own. Give the street address and the neighborhood in each brief, and say whether the role includes a second site in another part of Memphis, since the City covers 289.758 square miles of land in the Census Bureau’s 2025 Gazetteer.

Shelby County suburbs

Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, Lakeland, Arlington and Millington are incorporated municipalities in Shelby County according to the Census Bureau’s place files, and each has its own government. The Census lists Germantown, Bartlett, Lakeland and Millington as cities and Collierville and Arlington as towns. A Shelby County mailing address does not show the municipality, so name the municipality on the hospital’s legal address.

Tipton County

Atoka, Munford and Covington are Tipton County municipalities according to the Census Bureau. The Memphis MPO’s description of its planning boundary names Shelby and Fayette counties in Tennessee and does not name Tipton County, so state the county in the brief and do not rely on a Memphis label. Name the street address and whether the role includes a second site in Shelby County.

Fayette County

Oakland, Somerville and Piperton are Fayette County municipalities in the Census Bureau’s files, and the Memphis MPO’s planning boundary covers portions of Fayette County. Oakland and Somerville both sit on Highway 64, and a hospital on that road can carry either town’s name in its address. Use the street address and the county on the hospital’s legal documents.

Employer questions

Veterinary recruiting questions

Which veterinary positions can Memphis employers recruit through BEGHR?

The service covers permanent associate veterinarians, veterinary specialists, emergency DVMs, surgery appointments, medical directors and regional veterinary leaders. Search fit depends on the role, clinical requirements and employer brief. The practice makes the final hiring decision.

Is this for employers hiring veterinarians or for job applications?

This website is for practice owners and employer hiring teams seeking permanent veterinary staff. Its form requests a hiring brief and returns a placement estimate after employer opt-in. It is not an open-jobs directory or a candidate application form.

How does milestone billing work?

Agree the role, estimated fee range, billable milestones and payment terms before the search begins. Recruiting uses an hourly, pay-as-you-go model within the agreed range. BEGHR’s published placement process starts billing after applicants are sent. Invoices follow the agreed cadence, at least monthly during billable service delivery. BEGHR handles client billing and account questions.

Do we pay if a search does not result in a hire?

Milestone billing pays for agreed work as the search progresses, so completed billable milestones may still be payable without a placement. Your client agreement specifies the billing triggers, amounts, due dates and any cancellation terms.

Where can we see our placement price?

Select your role, complete the hiring questions and submit your employer contact details through the pricing form to receive an estimated fee range. BEGHR confirms the role classification, final fee and payment milestones before you engage the service.

How long does placement take?

BEGHR’s placement timeframe is 23–55 days. Timing depends on the role, candidate availability and the employer’s hiring process.

How does BEGHR pricing compare with contingency recruiting?

BEGHR offers placement at typically 50% less than contingency recruiting and 50% off second and subsequent hires for the same role. Use the pricing form for an estimate and confirm your fee and repeat-hire eligibility before starting.

What fill rate does BEGHR report?

BEGHR reports 86% fill rate on active searches across its placement service. This provider-wide figure is not a city-specific or veterinary-only result and does not guarantee an individual hiring outcome.

Who receives my employer inquiry?

Business Executive Group receives your contact information, selected roles, qualification answers, placement estimate and the originating website and page through its existing BEGHR lead intake. This is an employer inquiry, not a candidate job application.

How are placement fees confirmed?

The instant-pricing form uses BEGHR’s role categories and current retail ranges to show an estimate after you submit your employer details. The provider confirms the actual category, scope, payment milestones and commercial terms before a search engagement begins.
